This first set is title 'Wine Stained' for reasons I'm sure you can figure out. I'd been up late editing and drinking a few glasses wine, so I was very contented, but also self-conscious of my lips. The funny thing is that, looking at it now, my lips weren't nearly as bad as I perceived them to be at the time. Maybe a deeper lesson in that?
Wine Stained - A Series of Self Portraits
I've recently become a little obsessed with self portraits. Not in a "look at my duck-mouth" kind of way, but as a legitimate form of art and expression. An idea began to form a few months ago when I posted this picture to Instagram, very late at night when I was so tired, but happy and satisfied with what had been accomplished...What if I took self portraits throughout this year, but always at night and in the same spot? What can be read in a face?

Strange how different family members have similar traits. You should dig up some photos of my mom when she was your age.
Thank you, Martha!
these are stunning. i see bits of both of your adorable kids in your beautiful face.
I think its just going to be as the mood strikes, but I'm aiming for biweekly or twice a month. Its important to me that it isn't forced.
These are really nice. I'm intrigued by the series, the plans. All black and white? Every day? Once a week? As the mood strikes you?
Thanks for the feedback, Mike! I love your analysis - its great to see my work through new eyes! There was definitely some amusement in the second: there I was, purposely putting my self-consciousness on display...How can you not laugh at yourself for that?
The first portrait looks reflective and searching....and in the second I detect a hint of a smile, amusement and contentment.
